Musings of a meandering monk
The topic of grace came up in a dreamwork session this morning, which I explained as being God's benevolent attitude toward man, and I was asked if grace was love, which in a sense it is.
The word grace is actually used in several contexts in the Bible, but the one I want to focus on is the one that comes from the Greek kharisma - yes the very same that charisma comes from - both meaning 'gift'.
Grace and charisma are opposite sides of the same coin. Grace is the intent of Creator/Source for humankinds highest good - charisma is the human attunement to that intent.
The Bible says that grace is freely given so that none can claim salvation by their works, but at the same time says that 'grace without works is dead'. To me, all that that is saying is that one must work to become spiritually attuned - 'thy will is my will'.
It's really no different than going to work for a company - let's say the post office, who's mission is to deliver the mail. Your mission also becomes to deliver the mail - and if you do that to your best ability, you will likely find yourself in line for raises and promotions.
Charisma seems to be a difficult word to define (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charisma), but one of the attributes possessed by a charismatic person is confidence - 'with faith'. And why not act with faith when you know you are in sync with the highest authority?
In my opinion, Creator/Source's mission is to promote peace and prosperity throughout the earth. If we write our job descriptions to do our part in fulfilling that mission, attuning our minds and incorporating divine will into our lives, peace and prosperity become ours as well.
